Spiritual Don Premiere Night

Last night Moving Pictures Cinema hosted the London debut of Anthony Martinez’s documentary, Spiritual Don. The night was filled with filmmakers, friends, and family to view Martinez’s documentary.

Two years in the making, the film follows Spiritual Don as he uses music to navigate his mental health and personal history. What makes Spiritual Don a memorable film is not the well-constructed storyline or the sharp editing, though they are both features of the film. What makes Martinez’s documentary, Spiritual Don such an impactful film is the man at the center of it all, Vicknesh Visvanathan, or, as he is known to his friends, family, and fans, Spiritual Don. Throughout the film, we are shown the highs and lows of the life of Spiritual Don, and are continually struck with the endurance, hope, and passion that fills every corner of Spiritual Don’s life.

The real highlight of the night was the Q&A session after the film, where Spiritual Don performed a rap that ended the night on the perfect note, reminding us all of music’s outstanding capability to connect a room–or in this case cinema–full of people.
